The COVID-19 public health crisis has made it impossible to ignore the deep, structural flaws in the rules that govern our economy. Although all of us participate in the creation of wealth in our society, only a wealthy few capture these riches. The rest of us live one illness, one recession, or one piece of bad luck from economic ruin. And right now, Congress continues to debate if working Americans families deserve unemployment aid to survive. We know that this is no debate, and that’s why we banded together to demand community support. Partners in Washington, D.C. marched to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s home, demanding an extension of pandemic unemployment benefits that may soon be reduced or expire. As SPACEs in Action Executive Director LaDon Love repeats: “the people united will never be defeated.”
