Dorian Warren & Lorella Praeli, Co-Presidents of Community Change and Community Change Action
At our core, Community Change has always been an organization committed to building the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to change the policies and institutions that impact their lives.
In order to be most impactful in this work and carry out our mission, we need to be focused on our highest strategic value, and we need to be financially sustainable. To this end, we have undertaken a process to align our program and operations and to orient toward a new strategic proposition. This has happened in the context of a truly difficult financial environment. This work is our responsibility as Co-Presidents of this organization, in order to safeguard its future.
We have had to make hard choices, including the hardest choice of all. We are announcing today that we have made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to implement layoffs. We acknowledge the impact this decision will have–first and foremost on the people who are losing their jobs. We intend to move with as much care and concern as we can to support staff who will be leaving.
The choice we’re making today is difficult and painful. It is also the one we have to make for the future of the organization and to ensure that our work has continued impact.
