The Campaign for Community Change is working with several groups in the field to register a record number of new voters for this year’s election. In the days leading up to the election we would like to share stories from our organizers and shine a spotlight on their work.

Here’s what Ian C., an organizer with CASA de Maryland, has to say:

“One of my most memorable experiences while working for CASA is registering a woman for the first time who was born in 1941.  As simple as it seems, it was such a pleasure to know that as a result of me approaching this stranger and presenting her with the offer to register to vote, she will be voting in the next election and she encouraged her granddaughter to vote as well.  It is difficult to explain but it is a warming feeling to know that the work I am doing actually affects real people.  Registering a senior citizen to vote for the first time in their life is a moving and rewarding experience.”

Surprisingly, many seniors, especially in minority communities, have never voted. For a variety of reasons, such as racism, poverty, health, these individuals’ needs have gone unheard.  The Campaign for Community Change is and has been working for years to empower these lost voices.
